Levi Lee, the recently widowed proprietor who is struggling to keep his fair afloat, as his star attraction, The Wall of Death, has been closed down. His problems are exacerbated when his troubled son, Jack, falls for the daughter of Harvey, a local unscrupulous businessman, who isn't too happy that his little girl is courting "a pikey".

Love too begins to blossom between Levi and Rosa, the fortune teller, who foresees a storm approaching. Right she is too, as Harvey despatches a mob of his crone thugs intent on destroying the fair and driving Levi and his ragged bunch from the town. Levi has no choice but to stand up and fight for what is his, or lose everything. Will it prove that every cloud has a silver lining?

OUR FAMILY MIX UP

OUR FAMILY MIX UP

Presented by Creative Mouthpiece

Our Family Mix up

This play focuses on a newlywed couple, Jamal and Shami, who come from different cultural backgrounds and are beginning to settle into newlywed life. However, their peace is disrupted when Jamal invites his Aunt Della to stay with them for a short time as she is due to start work in the UK. Shami’s sister Hope is also invited to stay with the couple after facing some personal difficulties, which throws her life upside down. It takes no time at all before Aunt Della and Shami’s presence cause some turbulence for the couple. With Della being very set in her ways of her Jamaican upbringing and Hope having a very strong African background, we see the two clash continuously over many things, from a cultural perspective. We see the two challenge each other’s opinions and behaviours time and time again throughout the play. The differences between both Hope and Della also bring drama to our newlyweds, shedding light on some issues that the couple face and forcing them to recognise the new responsibilities of being married. Both Jamal and Shami are forced to compromise and face some difficult conversations.

We are also introduced to Jamal’s long time friend and business partner Kingston, who is also the local postman.  Kingston has always been smitten over Hope and the pair had not seen each other since Jamal and Shami’s wedding. Kingston learns some news about Hope that could change their relationship altogether.

Not long into the play, attention is drawn to the fact that Aunt Della is keeping a rather large secret from the family. Hope is the first to find out about the secret and we see many funny encounters between the two as the tension increases. However, we also discover that Hope herself has a secret  of her own that would make her vulnerable to the family, Aunt Della also uncovers this secret. The relentless conflict between the two plus the knowledge that they both have over one another brings a large amount of chaos to everyone involved. We see many backhanded comments and snarky remarks.

As patience begins to wear thin all around and tension brings everyone to breaking their point, will the secrets be revealed finally? We hope to see relationships mended perhaps stronger than before and the family finally come together in union as things may just work out well for all parties involved. Or will they?

This play will surely bring you a lot of comedy, hard cultural differences and take you on a journey of family drama that we can all relate to in some way.

Gary Meikle 2.5

Gary Meikle 2.5

Presented by GM Comedy LTD

Most blurbs are written in the 3rd person so they’ll be like ‘Gary is this, Gary is that, you can expect this from Gary’ well I’m writing this myself so, this will be MY 3rd show, or 2.5 as I’m calling it.  I’ve had several top professionals and industry people tell me over the years that I shouldn’t swear as much on stage, that I shouldn’t be as crude or as edgy as I am but guess what, they likely don’t know that as a kid growing up in the care system I was told that I’d be either dead or in jail by the time I was 30 so I tend not to listen to others and do things my way, its gotten me this far after all.  So, this show will be a continued celebration of me being me which in the current climate of cancel culture we find ourselves in could be seen as risky but f*** it.  My targets as always will be my girls and me as well as life observations on things like, new laws on unsolicited dic pics, how equality between the sexes has a clear definitive line, all medication side effects, my loathing of stupid questions, how our ancestors were idiots and much much more.  I’m going to remain to be playfully dark and as always do what I do best which is to be relatable, honest and give you an insight to what its like to be me, a young single grandad who’s passionate about making his audience laugh and then be available for hugs at the end if anyone needs or wants one. See you all soon enough 🙂

Footloose the Musical

Footloose the Musical

Presented by Nottingham Arts Youth Theatre

When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid.

The heartfelt story that emerges pins a father longing for the son he lost against a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top Forty score, augmented with dynamic new songs, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while guiding them with a warm heart and open mind.
