Saving Tinderella

Alex works as an outreach mental health nurse and lives at home with her mother Maureen and stuffed cat Tuppence. She has had one significant relationship with Doctor Nick Johnstone, but since he dumped her via a text message 10 years ago, she has launched from one disastrous relationship to another.

With the support of her dear Uncle Padraig, she navigates the complex labyrinth of online dating.

During a Tinder date with a spiritual yogi, she unexpectedly calls upon two guardian angels. These angels arrive in the form of her Irish ancestor Widow Keating and her beloved grandmother Geraldine McCarthy. The untimely return of the infamous ex Nick adds further fuel to the fire.

Between the four of them they navigate Alex's rocky road of dating and desires. Together they share their tales of love and tragedy whilst offering a hilarious and bewildering journey into two turbulent centuries worth of life, love, and everything else!

Saving Tinderella is bold, reflective, insightful, and an often-humorous look at how relationships, needs and desires have evolved over two centuries. The performance highlights and contrasts the life and death struggles and emotions faced by our ancestors and those trying to get to grips with the fast-paced changes in the modern world.

The Fureys 2025

The Fureys 2025

Legends of Irish music and song, The Fureys are renowned for their hit songs I Will Love You, When You Were Sweet Sixteen, The Green Fields of France, The Old Man, Red Rose Café, From Clare To Here, Her Father Didn’t Like Me Anyway, Leaving Nancy, Steal Away etc.

The oldest of the brothers, Eddie Furey left home in 1966 and travelled to Scotland at the time of the great folk revival where with his brother Finbar, he met and shared accommodation with then unknown folk singers Billy Connolly, Gerry Rafferty, Tam Harvey and Alex Campbell.

In 1972, Gerry Rafferty wrote Her Father Didn’t Like Me Anyway for Eddie. BBC Radio 1 presenter, the late John Peel made it his single of the year. They are particularly proud of their UK chart success with songs such as I Will Love You and When You Were Sweet Sixteen, which in turn helped bring Irish folk and traditional music to a completely new audience. The band made their Top of the Pops debut in 1981.

Eddie Furey recalls how “many musicians have told us we influenced them after hearing a record from their parents or grandparents’ collection”. Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics has credited Eddie with teaching him his first chords on the guitar while still a teenager. Eddie would return the compliment by joining Dave on stage in Paris for a jam during the latter’s wedding to Bananarama’s Siobhan Fahey.

The Fureys emotive songs stir many emotions, tears and laughter, sadness and joy.

What are men for? Most heavy things can be lifted by machines and most problems can be solved by computers and most puddles can be crossed without us gallantly draping our capes over them - so are we fellas of any use at all?
